Move THrough What is Holding You Back
EMDR Therapy
Evidence-based.
Nervous-system-paced.
When something overwhelming happens, your brain doesn't always file it away properly, often storing these experiences in the “emotional” part of the brain. These memories can stay "live," almost like it's still happening. That's why a smell, a tone of voice, or an offhand comment can suddenly pull you right back into a feeling from years ago. This is what happens when a person describes feeling “triggered”. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that draws on the intricate workings of the brain and how it processes traumatic experiences. EMDR actives your brain’s natural ability to heal and repatterns the brain and body to feel safe.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation — side-to-side eye movements, tapping, or alternating tones — while you bring attention to that memory. EMDR works with the mind and body together. It doesn't require reliving trauma in detail, it works with your nervous system's natural ability to heal and orient to the present.

What to Expect in an EMDR Session
The goal of EMDR is not to forget what happened. The memory stays — but the emotional charge around it fades. What used to feel like it was happening to you starts to feel like something that happened, in the past, that you got through.
-
I start by getting to know your story and what you want out of EMDR. We make sure you have the right tools in place — ways to ground yourself, calm your body, and feel safe in the room.
-
Reprocessing or bilateral stimulation uses eye movements, tapping, or gentle audio tones, to help your brain work through a specific memory without needing to recount every detail aloud.
-
I will check in at the end of each session to see what feels different or has shifted for you in session.

Frequently asked questions —
-
No, EMDR is also effective for everyday difficult events, chronic stress, negative self-beliefs ("little t" trauma), and distressing events or relationships that have felt stuck or stored.
-
There is no specific number of sessions and often depends on what you are working through. Some triggering events can be cleared in a few sessions, others can be a slower process, at times taking months to fully clear. We'll check in regularly on progress as memories that used to feel raw start to feel more neutral and triggers decrease emotional activation.

Yes! You will use a HIPPA compliant program to be able to do bi-laterals through telehealth. Telehealth EMDR has been shown to be equally as effective as in person.
